Dependent, vulnerable, trusting, and loving. These are the words that come to mind when I think of the ones in our lives. They need their parents or guardians and cannot imagine life without them.
When disciplined, my toddler would run straight into my arms or his father’s arms. He does not stop reaching out to us because we are his place of comfort and safety. He needs us, and he instinctively knows it. He cannot imagine life without us. My little ones’s behaviour reminds me of David’s statement in Psalm 139:7. “Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?”
David was a man after God’s heart because he kept seeking God’s heart because he kept seeking God despite his inadequacies. When God rebukes him, he was always quick to repent. He knew God was his place of comfort and safety. He knew he could not hide from God, his shepherd. He was childlike at heart.
God wants us to be childlike at heart , quick to run back to him when we fall short. We should receive God’s discipline like a child. When we run back to God, we are acknowledging our dependence on Him as a father who loves perfectly and knows what is best for us.
For an answer Jesus called over a child, whom he stood in the middle of the room, and said, ”I’m telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you’re not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in. Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God’s kingdom. What’s more, when you receive the childlike on my account, it’s the same as receiving me. Matthew 18:2-5 (MSG)
Being dependent, vulnerable, trusting, and loving on God shows we are childlike at heart.

You know there are times when we feel like we are not meeting up with our “godly timetable” or routine, and it’s in those moments we feel like God is angry with us or if we speak to him, He will be too mad at us to listen. I was feeling this way some weeks ago, I couldn’t pray or study my Bible, I felt really distant from God.
Running away from God is never the answer to our problems I hope that we learn from little children, no matter how much they offend their parents or get offended by their parents, yes they cry, throw tantrums but the next minute come running back to them seeking love and attention. It’s like they totally forget about it all.
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalms 145:18
Dear friends even in our lowest times, when we feel like God is drawing away from us that is the very moment we should actually be talking to God and spending more time with Him. Yes it might not feel right because of guilt but running back to God is always the best direction to go.
God’s love for us is beyond us meeting up our daily targets of living a godly life. Our relationship with God shouldn’t be a give and take relationship, or a to-to list that we have to thick. It should be a relationship of purpose. Yesterday, a friend gave me this analogy that really made me understand how it is when we stop communicating with God. It’s like when we are in an intimate relationship with someone and there’s no communication at all, no “how was your day?” “I miss you” “How’s your day going?” and what have you. That relationship stands a very high risk of falling apart and also the parties involved feel unimportant, uncared for and all that. This is how it is with our relationship with God, constant communication enhances our relationship with Him.
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.1 Peter 5:7
Dear friends being childlike is not being stupid, it is being at total surrender to God, being vulnerable, totally trusting and many more. You are specially loved by God and there’s no amount of sin or shortcoming that will separate us from God’s umbrella.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Dear friend, Talk with God, no breath is lost. Walk with God, no strength is lost. Wait for God, no time is lost. Trust in God, you will never be lost. God is always ready to listen anytime you are ready to talk to him. Prayer is simply talking with God.
